QUESTION: Why is the Annual Giving Campaign necessary?
RESPONSE: We conduct the Annual Giving Campaign to make sure everyone in Collier County has a chance to belong and participate at the YMCA, regardless of circumstances and ability to pay.
QUESTION: What is the Campaign Goal?
RESPONSE: The goal is to raise $150,000 to provide membership and program financial assistance scholarships for youth, families and individuals regardless of circumstances, ability to pay or what zip code they live in, ensuring participation, support and involvement.
QUESTION: How do I find donor prospects willing to support me and the Y’s Annual Giving Campaign?
RESPONSE: Think of people you know, your friends, co-workers, peers, church friends, neighbors, relatives, successful people you know, business owners, people you do business with, Advocacy group leaders, Trade Associations, Services Clubs (Rotary, Lions, Optimist, Kiwanis, etc), grant opportunities you may be aware of, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn friends, Elected officials, Community leaders, Media contacts to name a few.
QUESTION: Doesn’t the Y get financial support from dues, program fees, grants and other funding sources?
RESPONSE:Yes, the YMCA certainly gets a lot of community support from multiple sources, but it is simply not enough to cover the full cost of operating the facilities and delivering all of the programs. It’s also critical that the Y keeps its membership dues and program fees as affordable as possible. Membership dues only cover the cost of maintaining and operating YMCA facilities and programs. Contributions from the Y Annual Giving Campaign provide the needed financial assistance Scholarships for youth, individuals and families in need of membership or programs, regardless of circumstance, ability to pay or what zip code they live in.
QUESTION: Does all of the money raised in the Y Annual Giving Campaign stay here?
RESPONSE:Yes, 100% of the contributions stay right here, serving people throughout Collier County.
QUESTION: What if I get turned down and they choose not to donate?
RESPONSE: Not everyone will choose to donate, but we can always make a new friend of the YMCA, even if they decide not to make a contribution. Sometimes, the timing just isn’t right for the person, but when it is, many will call back. As always, thank them for their consideration and support of our work with youth, adults and families.
QUESTION: How do I respond if someone has a concern?
RESPONSE: If you get a question you can’t answer or a concern, offer to find the answer and call them back or defer to a YMCA Staff person and they will reach out and make the contact and address the question or concern. You certainly want to listen and bring the concern to Y staff, but try not to comment on their specific issue or concern.
QUESTION: Why should I give to the Y’s Annual Giving Campaign, I’m not a member?
RESPONSE: You benefit by having a strong YMCA in the community that provides meaningful services and opportunities to those who need our help the most. The YMCA makes our entire community a better place to live and work.
