The Next Chapter

Together we can achieve the dream of bringing a one-of-a-kind, world-class preschool to Naples. Our dream is to have a holistic model of care for children that includes health and wellbeing as well as early education and preparation for a life of learning.

Collier County, historically, has been deficient in educational readiness scores.  The Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener has reported Collier County as scoring below 70 percent on both the Early Childhood Observation System and the Florida Assessments for instruction in Reading Measurements on early learning and developmental standards for four-year-olds.

Lal Gaynor, Honorary Chair for the Campaign for Early Learning commented, “I know in my heart that the children will be well prepared to be a success in their future schooling as a result of the Center’s programs.” When referring to the renewed YMCA that opened in January, 2015, Mrs. Gaynor added, “The new facility is quite fantastic. We have built the best YMCA anywhere right here in Naples.  Providing healthcare services on site will complete the picture and solidify the Y’s mission of nurturing health, mind, body and spirit.  Our new early learning center is an integral part of the renewed Y.  I am looking forward to this NEXT CHAPTER!”

Our early education instructors will be trained to deliver a nationally recognized curriculum, entitled Creative Curriculum GoldPLUS. A child in our new early learning center will have an integrated developmental experience with the GoldPlus curriculum and medical/therapy services available in one location at the YMCA.  This is made possible through the partnerships between the YMCA, Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida, and Golisano Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation therapy team.  Noted Collier County Pediatrician, Dr. C. Todd Vedder will serve on-site as clinical director.

Our innovative, collaborative model was put into practice as a way to strengthen a lacking record of school readiness in Southwest Florida. This collaboration provides crucial early interventions to any developmental delay. When complete, the YMCA model will be a professional development and instructional training site for students enrolled in Florida SouthWestern State College-Collier’s Early Childcare Education program.

The Naples YMCA is the largest provider of early learning in Collier County.  It only makes sense for the Y to take the lead in early learning for the area and hopefully the nation.

Thanks to the generous giving of philanthropists like Lal Gaynor and Jerry Nichols, the Naples YMCA has completed Phase One of this ambitious project: opening the rehabilitation and pediatric care facility on the Y campus.  The new Gaynor Early Learning Center will be adjacent to these services.

Phase Two will provide a state of the art innovative learning community for children to be better prepared for success in our Collier schools.

The Greater Naples YMCA’s NEXT CHAPTER begins now and we invite you to be part of it!
